Yes I'm thick.

Very quick question - please explain;

Accepting that it should really be set up properly, in simple terms, would a heavy bloke (22st) :-o have the front preload set nearer to 0 or nearer to 5

Thanks.

The heavier you are the more preload you want (ie more screwed down) so you get less sag when you load it. The stock suspension is a bit crap for us big blokes, I live with it, but I'm planning on putting stiffer springs front and a new shock rear later in the year when I have more cash.
Now on a Super Tenere having put 64k miles on a 2011 DL650

Mine's set at 2...at 22st you are a fair bit lighter than me.

Mines been at 2 since the day I bought it, the only thing I've done suspension wise is re-grease all of the linkages when I fitted the 1" lowering links and turned the knob on the remote rear adjuster to about 3/4's (leaving a little for when the 12st missus hops on the back....)

Front I believe is on number 2 from the factory and 2 rings showing on the rear.
rear damping adjuster is all the way in and back out 1 and a half turns.#

I have the front set to position 1, rear at 2 rings showing, and the damping a little stiffer than normal.
when the mrs on the back the rear preload goes up to the max.

You want about 40mm of sag from full extension (wheel off the ground) at both ends when loaded. If the preload setting can't manage that, new springs are required.

Is this right?

I'm 22st and have the front preload at maximum.

I understand that the front suspension travel on a Glee is 150mm. I sat on the bike whilst my wife steadied it and my daughter measured from the dust seals to the bottom of the triple clamp which was 112mm.

This means that the sag is 38mm which is basically 25% of the total travel.

For Grey Wolf .. how and where is the 40mm sag measured.
On the front fork tube ?
Where is the rear end measured?
This doesn't last forever, so do it while you can.

The distance from the bottom triple clamp to the dust seal is not the travel. The usable travel is not 150mm anyway. You extend the suspension to its full extension by taking all the weight off the tyre. Measure the amount from the triple clamp to the top of the dust seal and call that distance A. Then you put a cable tie around the fork tube at the dust seal. Get on the bike and wiggle a bit with feet off the ground to get past the stiction of the seals. Measure from the triple clamp to the bottom of the cable tie and call that distance B. Your sag is A - B if you defeated the seal stiction properly.

For the rear, get somebody else to do the measurements from the rear axle to a point on the body above it.
