Spark Plug Settings Confirmation
« on: July 08, 2013, 09:34:26 »
I am about to replace the spark plugs on my K9 and would appreciate some confirmation of plug gap and torque settings please?

Am I right in settings the plug gap to 0.7 and what is the recommended torque for tightening up?

Thanks

Des

0.7mm gap, 11Nm torque :thumb:

Edit: Service manual says 0.7-0.8mm, but I always put them on 0.7 myself as they will increase in use rather than reduce.

Edit 2: Plugs are NGK CR8E or CR8EI (iridium.)

A lot of people are fitting the Iridium plugs. They're not much more expensive but last much longer (have heard of as much as 60,000 miles!) so making servicing a bit easier. In spite of NGK's claims they don't improve running or performance in most people's opinions though.

+1 for iridium plugs, use them myself and they last ages. I just use a spark plug wire brush to clean them off and then they go back in after the gap's been reset.

You're welcome :thumb: I'll get off my arse now, my centre stand needs some new paint while the weather is this good. Spend some time yesterday cleaning it up and put Kurust on, it came out nicely. It's been hanging outside in the sun all morning to get warm :)
