Remove Chain Guard

Chaps,

How on earth did you remove the chain guard on the Vee. I cannot get that second screw out cause of the pipe being in the way!
Is there a specific tool or method you used?

Nope...never taken my chainguard off....however, have removed the rear pipe to change the dog bones, only two bolts and a minutes work.....

Heatha,

I have removed the chain guard to fit my Hugger,but I don't remember having much trouble!

Just try and find a suitable alternative to a screw driver and if it has a nut inside the guard try turning the nut from the inside while holding the screw steady  :shy:

a picture would be nice... of the screw that is :shy:  lol  :grin:

Don't know if they're the same, but on the glee the front fixing is a phillips 3 screw which is obscured by the rear pillion footpeg. There is a screwdriver-sized hole in the footpeg plate which allows access using a long bladed screwdriver. I bought 150mm length one for £2.50 from my local Screw-Fix store which did the job nicely.

Thank you for all your help. I just guess I need to find the correct right angles screwdriver, I'll start visiting the hardware stores.
Things would be so much easier on here if I could post photos :old: !

Can't you just remove the footpeg?

No not on the Vee, the second pipe is in the way. Can't use a normal screwdriver, need a right angled type piece.

As for photos, I just don't know how to post them I'm afraid. I thought I needed a special access?

I removed the left exhaust to get the chain guard off, put the hugger on and everything back together, now the bike won't start, it tries ti fire up but can't. Oh dear!  :groan:

Whenever the engine cranks but doesn't start, the first thing to try is opening the throttle while cranking. The usual problem is flooding and opening the throttle lets in more air.
Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. 2012 DL650A outlasted me.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 (K2-L2) DL1000s. Veek=2014+ (L4+) DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 (K4-L1) DL650s. Glee = 2012+ (L2+) DL650s

Believe me, you are not alone. Modern fuel injection systems are normally very good when starting as long as no throttle input is used so the idea of using throttle has been taboo. It is still useful when an engine doesn't start right away though.
