I think I have Sven.
Got a couple of photos of the "5 parts" on each side but don't know how to post pictures/photos.  Though the end bit I fished out is more like a washer than a nut I.I. it does nothing to tighten the screw & I can't find anything else inside the bars on both sides.  Maybe I should find a couple of nuts that will tighten the whole thing?

Look at Juv's post at the bottom. There's a pic of all the parts. See if you've got them all!

Lot's of people have made the mistake of taking the screw out instead of just loosening it and wiggling out the entire assembly. If you have a compressed air source, you can rig a net on one side an blow air into the other side. A plumbers snake normally used for cleaning out drain pipes is a perfect tool to push things through.

Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. 2012 DL650A outlasted me.

Yeah, looks like I have made exactly that mistake Greywolf.
It's a case of live & learn - now trying to fish the end bits out I.e. rubber bung with nut, so will need as much ingenuity as I can muster.   Compressed air source is a brilliant idea but alas not in my make shift garage!
Should have read the earlier post before jumping in like a bull in a china shop

Does anyone know it the same heated grips connection is on SV650? Would it be the same horn connector?
Thanks
