V-Strom Seat Modification
« on: December 10, 2012, 13:31:58 »
Anyone else get dumb-bum after riding DL650 after about 30mins to an hour?

I get it pretty terrible!

Thinking about either buying a new custom seat or having my stock seat (no gel pads) modified.  Anyone done this?

Sorry don't get this until about 1½ hours and by then I am looking stopping for wee/food/drink/fuel anyway.
Take a Super Moto out for an afternoons ride and never complain about your vstrom saddle again :)

Or ride all day long. http://www.day-long.com/

Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. 2012 DL650A outlasted me.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 (K2-L2) DL1000s. Veek=2014+ (L4+) DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 (K4-L1) DL650s. Glee = 2012+ (L2+) DL650s

Fitted Gel pad in mine but still got a numb arse after a hr or so . I then got a seat from a Vee , what a difference . I've done 5 hrs with a 10 min stop but started to hurt after about 3 hrs . I now have a Airhawk for the longer rides . I can highly recommend the Vee seat .

No , the Vee seat is not as curved as the Wee seat and its wider so it spreads the weight across the seat better . Think is 20mm higher .

The optional tall touring seat is very good (+20mm on a Vee, +40mm on a Wee) and is noticeably more comfortable than the standard Vee seat. The extra legroom is a godsend too  :thumb:

Or, in my case, Waaay Doon South.

I went for a Corbin seat off e-bay. Fab, comfy all day & miles better than my Vee seat that gave me terrible numb bum after an hour.

I can highly recommend this +4 cm solution and Suzuki sell a complete new seat with base and everything for 1,567 DKK here which is 170 GBP. I believe the price was much higher when I first bought a replacement seat in 2005.

I like the shape, looks like the pillion seat is higher than it would be on stock which is something my shorty good lady might like, she might be able to see over my shoulder then lol

I can't see myself spending that kind of money on something that I've never tried though. I wonder what they would charge if you sent them your own seat to modify like that.

I think medium works well for the Strom, but someone with one will have to confirm that for you. There are some measurements on their website that might help too.

I used to have bad discomfort after an hour riding until I fitted a gel pad into my seat. Very easy to do with good instructions on youtube. I can now ride 3+ hours easily on my 650 seat. I have a thread about the gel pad fitting with pics somewhere on the forums
I'm sane, honestly. . . I got a certificate to prove it!
