Oooops!
« on: May 02, 2013, 21:47:12 »
Rode to work.  Lovely sunny day.  Applied steering lock but turned key too far and had sidelights on.  PM comes.  Want to get home, and... you guessed it... flat battery :angry-tappingfoot:

AA came out - a biker!  Fixed in no time :fix: and back on the road  :auto-dirtbike: Very embarrassing though

Anyone else done that or am I the only complete muppet here?  :character-kermit:

(I claim this is a bit of a design issue!)

I once left Oxford heated over grips on all day and they flattened the battery. Ended up pulling the battery out & getting picked up. Had to reinstall whilst it was pi$$ing it down.... Never did that again either!

I once left the intercom turned on all week while we explored Paris on public transport.

On my first ever V-Strom test ride I did that and the dealer told me off for it. Never did it since.

Havnt so far but did flatten my battery when my lil nephew wanted to look at my bike and kept putting the aux lights on cos they looked " so nice and bright" I won't  complain though and didn't mind as well, he was only 4 and loved sitting on the bike. The time after I had the engine running while he sat just in front of me. My bro is worried I've got him stuck on bikes now lol . Start em young I say
I'm sane, honestly. . . I got a certificate to prove it!

Did it once but noticed it as soon as I done it because I park up next to a tarpaulin in the dark when I get home and pass in front of the bike when I leave it. I don't think of it as much of a design fault , the alternative would be to put it clockwise from the on position which would mean leaving the bike unlocked. The only reason you would use the parking lights is when the bike is going to be left. If it was on the handlebars then some imbicile could put it on while the bike is off and drain your battery in the same way. I think it's fine where it is , just learn to live with it.

And feel like a numpty for the rest of your life for leaving the light on  :haha:

Can't believe no one has come up with a quick (wire-snip) fix for this.  If one is averse to snipping wires then the addition of an in-line switch perhaps.....?

Project for someone of a Lupine lilt....?   :shy:

Depending on the bike model, there will be either an orange/green or a grey wire coming off the ignition switch. Cut the brown wire off the ignition switch and connect it to that iwire. An SPDT switch that will re-connect switch side brown to bike side brown on one setting or bike side brown to that wire will select the stock situation or cut out the parking light.
