Fuse box
« on: March 28, 2013, 16:37:06 »
Thinking about fitting a Eastern beaver fuse box to my glee as I have 3 accessories running of my battery
but I'm a big wuss when dealing with bike wiring so I need a few questions answering.
As anybody got one and fitted it ?
How easy or hard is it to do?
Any help would be welcome
I have an alarm fitted plus Oxford heated grips which where put on at dealers when I bought it
Since I have fitted a 12v socket, autocom ,gps holder/dock.
Many thanks

A doddle to fit, get the headlight relay kit upgrade too. All in all it takes half an hour to fit. There are no wires to cut as it comes with all connections that push fit together utilising connections already on the bike. EB website has clear instructions on how to fit.  :thumb:  watch for £36 import duty  ###

Yep. Thought I got a good bit of kit that wasn't exactly cheap. Received a letter from parcel force to say the delivery was at port and would only be released after I paid £36 import duty.  :angry-tappingfoot:

I get a tax figure of c.£14. as Electronics Pcb has an import duty rate of 3.7% and VAT rate of 20%.
Duty result is nil because the total value of your products does not exceed £135.00....according to:  http://www.dutycalculator.com

This is also useful:  http://customs.hmrc.gov.uk/channelsPortalWebApp/channelsPortalWebApp.portal?_nfpb=true&_pageLabel=pageImport_FAQs&propertyType=document&id=HMCE_PROD_008654#P39_7232

As is this:  http://www.parcelforce.com/receiving-parcel/importing-uk/customs-charging

You might be able to get it reduced to £24 or somesuch as they will still probably try to charge a tenner for "handling"....  Lesson is to try to declare it upfront and get an import code.  Never done it myself so no idea if it works.

Can't we copy the design for less than $90 + postage + £36 to the Treasury for doing absolutely FA? Surely at its heart it's just wire, connectors and a relay?

I'm thinking of adding a switched relay for Sat Nav etc. I'm not likely to pay anything like that though..

Easy enough to make, it's just pricey if you don't have all the connectors, spare wire etc.  But yes, def. doable it's not complicated.  Just search ebay.

Could try this bloke - never used him myself:  http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/6-Way-Blade-Fuse-Box-1-Positive-Bus-12v-LED-WARNING-Kit-Car-Boat-Marine-Trike-/190691022541?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item2c661216cd

This is cheap, not sure if it means you can run three circuits off it:  http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Relay-3-Fuse-Base-Kit-4-5-PIN-Flasher-Relays-ATO-Fuses-Holder-Socket-Box-/180739111864?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item2a14e3fbb8

Satisfied with the EB kit. I did buy the PC8 and headlight kit and don't mind paying a fair price for good quality.

Just the import duty is a con......  ### money for SFA

Well followed the link to Beaver from Jeff999  :)
I'm going to get the 3 circuit solution 3cs from Eastern Beaver as there's not much room under seat as my auto com is there and other things

I've had the 3C solution from Eastern b for a couple of years, and its excellent, well-made, and enough for most purposes. I'v still got one circuit unused! If you aren't using the Suzuki heated grips circuit you can always use that as a switched circuit, too, extend it from its connector behind the radiator to the front...

Lot of electrical additions to a bike do better direct to the battery (maybe with an extra fuse and/or a relay) anyway...

I also use my permanent connector for the Optimate charger for access to power, and with a ciggy-type charge point, that's a ton of power!

I got the connector from Suzuki at Neville's Cross Durham and managed to attach it to the plug behind the radiator. So as well as the fuse box I now have that to use.  I think I will use that as the feed for the gear Indictor I got from Nikolas.
