Fluid leak problem
« on: April 10, 2013, 10:46:50 »
Self inflicted as most of my problems are.
I fitted new brake lines, pads, pistons and seals.
Now one of the bleed nipples is leaking through the thread.
Not pouring out just weeping.
It did this overnight when no pressure was applied.
It is not leaking up through the bleed hole (but that may be because the fluid is leaking through the thread first).

I thought screwing down the bleed nipple closed off the bleed hole so I can't see how the fluid gets to the thread.

I have tried loosening and tightening the nipple in case it was not seating but this  has not cured it.

Anyone had this problem and or can suggest a fix?

Years ago when I was skint and ran old bikes I had this problem on a Honda due to a damaged thread. Being impoverished I simply fitted a small rubber washer (which I made from something else). It lasted the lifetime of the bike but that was not a very long time.

had the same issue with some cheap bleed bolts. take a bit of fine emory cloth and sand the sealing surface of the nipple flat. you may find you have made a goudge it th surface if it got overtightened. also I use plumbers sealing tape on the threads, stopps it binding.

I followed the advice above and applied a small strip of PTFE.
Job done. :ty:

BTR brake lines and EBC HH pads.

I am just back from 120 mile test trip to bed the pads in.

Leak free and wow what a difference in braking power. Two fingers is all that is needed.
