Hi - Anyone know if the right hand handlebar switch from a K2/K3 Vee with the light switch will fit a K4 Vee without a light switch ?
I have a twin HID kit and sometimes due to the voltage drop on engine startup one or the other lights doesn't come on and its a pain to turn off and restart the engine to get it back. I have an extra handlebar switch to fit but I wanted to use that for some spotlights I'm going to fit - Thanks !!

Change your start-up procedure
Press (and hold) the start button, ignition on, then pull the clutch, and release the start button.
This keeps the h/lights off until the engine's running and you release the start button.

K4s don't have a light cutout in the start switch. That started with K5 models. Even if the K2/3 handlebar switch does work, and I don't remember anybody trying it, the wiring would need to be custom connected. It would probably be easier to add a separate switch. An Eastern Beaver headlight relay kit is a good idea the take the load off the sub standard stock headlight wiring.

A handlebar switch can be added to cut the earth connection to the relays to turn off the headlights

Using such a switch without relays would probably be too much power for the switch to handle reliably over the long term and I'd recommend relays for all Stroms.

I thought I'd add a warning. It's often a bad idea to cut an earth connection. The little electrons tend to find a path to earth through any means they can. For example, trying to cut out both beams of one headlight by switching its earth wire winds up dimly lighting the filaments that were supposed to be off. Cutting the earth connection to the relays should work fine though.
