Gear Shift Angle - how best to change it.
« on: February 10, 2013, 01:20:38 »
:fix: Picking your brains here rather than fill up the swear box.

I need to raise the front end of the gear lever slightly on my 2011 Wee to accomodate by shiny new Alt Bergs at a more comfortable angle.

There is what looks like an adjuster....There is a 10mm bolt clamping onto the splined shift shaft...There is a circlip on the gear lever pivot - but which is the easiest way to achieve a "10mm lift" at the front end? :shy:

Normal abuse cheerfully accepted in return for some practical advice. :)

For a coarse change, remove #36, adjust #27 anti-clockwise one spline, and reinstall #36. For a fine change, loosen #34 and #37. #34 has a left handed thread while #37 has a normal right handed thread. Because of this, rotating #29 will raise and lower the foot pedal. Between the coarse and fine adjustments, you'll be able to get the pedal where you want and have #29 with a good amount of thread in use. For a 10mm change, the fine adjuster may be the only one you need.

I only needed the turnbuckle adjustment for my Sidis - going a spline was too much.

Hmm... this actually doesn't look too hard (even for me!)... I'm having a similar problem with my Alpinestar Scouts, might do this before my next long ride. I only wear my TCX X-street ankle boots for riding around London so it's only an issue if I'm going far enough afield to put my full gear on.

Thanks Greywolf!

Thank you Greywolf & Mr Nick - just the detailed help I was looking for.

The strength & friendliness of this forum was one of the deciding factors in going for the Wee - so now I enjoy a great bike & great backup!

 :ty: Thanks again

Just be careful with #34. It seems wrong to put a spanner on it and move the spanner down to loosen but that's how it works. People who have gone the other direction have stripped threads. Down loosens both lock nuts.
