Accessing dash/speedo assembly
« on: February 04, 2013, 18:25:19 »
I've got to dismantle the speedo assembly as it's got some water in there so I can dry it out and acf50 it.
Can anyone tell me what I need to do to do this?

Hi mate easier than it looks.

1. take screen off to give yourself more access.
2. sit on bike .. there are 4 (4mm) hex head bolts to undo and remove, two near the top two near the bottom of the dash facia surround.
3. There are 4 popper things to take out (press in centre and pull out) two at the top and two where the plate meets the tank surround.
4. stand at the right hand side of the bike. Press down on the surround and roll your hand towards the left side of the bike. It feels like your going to break something but your not!.
5. once this side is removed do same for other side.
6. there is a multiplug that plugs into the back of the dash, pull it out and Hello presto  :lala:

Hope this helps.

Cheers Josh,
Everything came off okay and have gently dried, then cleaned and lubed with acf50. There was a little water in the electrical connector so hopefully we'll be up and running again.

Excellent,

When I put mine back together it changed the odometer to KPH .. to change it back just go the main odometer and hold the adjust button for 2 seconds  :thumb:

Well everything went back together OK but the speedo is still wonky going from 0 to 92 to 37 etc etc etc (whilst still stationary). Its had the obligatory acf50 into the connector so hopefully that will creep in and push the moisture out...:?:

Right .. is it under warranty? If so let them sort it out bud .. its there problem .. however I would guess that what you have done would solve the problem

Definitely get it back for warranty as I had mine looked at last week on it's 4k service as it looked like there was something on the inside of the 'glass' that came & went that was more like clear tape coming off. They didn't find anything but replaced the clear plastic anyway.

Went back on Saturday as it's now worse than before and they've flagged it to the warranty lot but there's no other incident on the files there to corroborate it being an issue yet. This time it does look like some kind of liquid.

I dismantled the dash assembly and all appears fine, when I disconnected the electrical lead to the dash there was some water in the connector. I'm going to see what the acf50 does. Sadly (own fault I know) as I've done all my own servicing since the 600 mile service I'm guessing the warranty is null and void  so will prob be told to feck off by dealership.

Suzuki are quite happy to allow self servicing so I would check on this.

If there is water in that connector then the rubber boot was never on properly or a jet washer was shoved in there?

Let it dry out naturally then spray it and see what happens

Contact Suzuki anyway and mention the problem

The speedo is not involved in servicing anyway so there is a possibility they won't even ask the question and if they do you can remind them of that fact. Talk nice to the dealer and if he gets stroppy go and talk nice to another one.

Ta for all the advice, the acf50 liberally coated into the speedo connectikns and loom did the trick. Is there anything it won't do......
