Help with Smelling Rich & Stalling
« on: October 06, 2012, 16:14:43 »
Symptoms:
-Bike smelling rich even when idle, end cans not excessively carboned. My mate says the bike smells rich when hes following.
-Getting less miles to a tank full.
-there's been a few times when I've slowed at lights and the bike stalls for no reason, just happens when I throttle off, clutch in, and braking.
-Also, twice today, when pulling away from the lights, find the biting point, the bike goes to move then stalls. Both times happening around 2.5K rpm.
(above happens during normal running conditions)
-Oh forgot to mention the bike has hiccup'd a few times aswell during low revs while just turning slowly which has nearly ended up with the bike on top of me.

Checks carried out:
-VAC line from TBs checked, my scottoiler vac pipe is still in place on one TB, the other TB still has the blanking plug in it.
-Using the Yoshi Box, I've double check the FI programming, reseting the Mid & High end to ZERO and leaving the LOW end +5% which is what I've always ran with (and stops the lumpy part throttle around roundabouts)
-Bike idles nicely at 1200 rpm
-TPS checked, in dealer mode, with correct idle and its kicking in round 1700-1800 rpm.

The symptoms to me resemble an air leak but I don't know from where.
Can anyone suggest any other checks to carry out?

Have you checked the rubber boots are still seated on the throttle bodies. Not quite the usual symptoms for that but worth a check

The obvious one, is the air filter clean? A clogged filter will make it rich

Bet you a tenner the STV butterflies (under the airbox on top of the throttle bodies) are gummed up and not functioning properly!

The secondaries? If that's what you mean then I've taken mine out a while ago.

Ah... well that's a virtual tenner I won't see again!

Just out of interest: it doesn't have anything to do with that "Fueling Box" thing your sig mentions, does it?

When you say hiccup'd, do you mean with a 'pop' a bit like a back-fire.
that's what people report when the throttle boots are one-seated.
