Great link.  One question, do those on here really remove the swinging arm to replace the chain?  I normally use a split link on lower power machines or a soft link at best.  I can't remember ever buying and endless chain before.

Most people cut off the old chain and replace it with a rivet type master link chain. It's is as strong as the other links if installed properly. A split keeper master link is almost as good if it is the type that needs to have the side plate pressed on before installing the keeper. The keeper can have a spot of silicone or be safety wired on to insure it stays. Problems with them are rare. If the side plate can be put on by hand, it is not as good and the opposite side can, on rare occasions, work harden and break.

I like to use rivet type master links as I bought a good tool for them long ago. If I didn't have a chain tool, I might go with an EK screw on master link. I have yet to hear of a problem with them. The nuts force the plate on and are then removed and the screw ends broken off.

Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. 2012 DL650A outlasted me.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 (K2-L2) DL1000s. Veek=2014+ (L4+) DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 (K4-L1) DL650s. Glee = 2012+ (L2+) DL650s

The chain on the old Stroms were the same, not? I removed an OEM chain for ham1 once, it didn't have a link, all continuous. We stuck a DID chain on it with a rivet link, there's no way I'm taking the swingarm off for a chain. The 650 definitely isn't too strong for a rivet link, not even the 1000. In fact, I can't think of any 'normal' bike that wouldn't work properly with a rivet link in a good chain.

You wouldn't be saying that if you charged £60 an hour to take swing arms off and could thus afford to employ a lawyer!
