CLUTCH IDLE RATTLE
« on: November 25, 2011, 19:05:41 »
hi

on my 650 done about 700 odd miles now had first service done

when cold I can hear a loud rattle which goes when I pull the clutch in.
onces warmed up its still there but a little hard to hear but you can still hear it and again goes once clutch pulled in.

what could be causing this? or is it the norm for this engine?

Not normal but do have the clutch rechecked as I know one Suzuki workshop oil monkey can often not be as good as another oil monkey as I know to my cost when I tried a different workshop. :fix:  :groan:

It sounds like the classic thrust bearing which can get quite noisy quite quick. Have it checked by a Suzuki monkey but it'll probably be making the same noise in 80,000 miles time.

yep definitely sounds like a thrust bearing to me, I'm used to the noise from working on cars and having to change the clutch bearings.

motorcycles I have not had the joys of doing clutchs yet.

I take it they have the same sort of bearing then?

Similar, but smaller, more loads and more prone to a bit of 'elbow room'. " Don't wory sir, they all do that", as they say.

If it's only done 700 miles it's still under warranty, take it to a Suzuki dealer (there are less and less of them around nowadays...) and have it fixed. It's probably nothing serious, but if it does develop then they can't say it's your fault for not telling them this.
