Wow, quite remarkable, I'd have lost half the little bolts and snapped a vital part building that ! The feller must have the patience of a saint.

That's really cool! I'm in awe of people like that who have the patience, skill and motivation to create stuff like that. Personally I find it a lot easier whiling away my free time down the pub!
One thing though - didn't he miss out the cooling and lubrication system?

Very clever, enjoyed that. I remember seeing a programn some time ago where a bloke I think he was a French Post Office worker or something.  He built a 1/4 size Ferrari 2 seater race car complete with V12 48 valve quad overhead cam engine and six speed gearbox etc.  They ran it on the show, it was incredible.  Wish I could remember more about it, it must be on the net somewhere.  Maybe they found a quarter size driver to fit in it by now.

 Wow! I'm really impressed with that. Was grinning the whole time while watching that  I wish I had the skill to do what he did building that.

ps. It isn't a diesel, would need glow plugs to start and the compression ration needed would be difficult to get in a small engine like that (not to mention that it would need a lot of cooling.) It probably doesn't need cooling because it's quite open. Probably runs on ethanol.

Beautiful bit of engineering. Could it driven by compressed air? (I watched without sound) else it must be a diesel, as there are no spark plugs, like a model aircraft engine (which are small two-stroke diesels) . Glow plugs make diesels easier to start but aren't strictly necessary. It could have been run up by donkey/starter motor until the compression heated up the mass of the motor and it became self running.
Interesting that it is push rod, but I guess OHC might have been a bit difficult to build in miniature. At least it isn't two-stroke.

You are probably right, no spark plugs either, hmm (I blame the oversight on not having slept more than 2 hours in the last 36 ) It would be interesting to get more info on this.

You are probably right about it running on ethanol, (like model aircraft diesel engines) which is why there doesn't appear to be much/any cooling.

This motor is proof, if any were needed, that 'engineer' is derived from the same word as ingenuity. What a craftsman.
