First MOT due next week....
« on: October 13, 2011, 22:04:15 »
Just booked my Wee in for it's first MOT next Monday.

I've been looking around it for a couple of weekends now and checked all the ususal things (lights, indicators, brakes, tyres, chain, fork seals etc and everything looks OK to me.

Any suggestions you may have for 'gotchas' that I might have overlooked would be very welcome....

They checked my chain for tight spots on the last MOT, I never noticed them doing that before. I got an advisory for that and for a squared off rear tyre. I think the bloke let me off on the rear because him and the others around at the time were astounded at 45k miles a year  The Stroms are solid, you'll fly through, your bike is in much better nick than mine and mine passed without any real issues every time.

I always use the same MOT bloke and he's never checked my chain for tight spots on any bike !

This bloke was thorough and, strangely, I appreciated it. He's one of those one man shows that has all the right tools. If I ever needed something really big done that I don't have the time or the tools for I'd take the bike to him (that's if I couldn't bribe Mad Phil to do it first.)

Mine went for its first 'one less than 2 weeks ago, after checking it over and sorting the sidelights out I was only sweating over the front tyre which to my measuring was marginal, but it went through alright ( "nah, there's enough on" was all he said). No checking of chain for spots (just cursory tightness check). Concentrated mostly on brakes and bearings checks, it seemed to me, apart from obvious headlights and other kit operation. How many miles has your wee done ptarmigan?

If you'v checked everything else obvious, I would check out your steering head bearings, make sure no movement/'clunks' in there, and not too tight...I bet it's fine, though!  :thumb:

So the big day came, bang on 13050mls when I arrived at the garage and 45 mins later it's all over.

Passed without question or comment.

The biggest thing I did was clean and oil the chain  :fix: never had a bike like that before.

I have definately gone up in the world with my Wee :lala:  :lala:  :lala:  :lala:  :lala:  :lala:
