Is it a case of not being able to turn the key in the seat lock or does the key turn, but the latch doesn't release?

Push down hard on the back where the mechanism is if you haven't already. Its worth a try before you destroy a seat. They can stick half way. As Juvecu says - is it the lock won't turn properly or the lock turns and it won't release?
