Hi
I recently got myself a basket case Suzuki A50 and I’m slowly going through it, the spokes need relacing and the rear rim could do with replacing, I have a new 1.40x17, but the rim on it now is 1.20x17, would there be any problems replacing it with the 1.40? I will be renewing the tyres.
Thanks in advance

Hi tonkie,
Assuming you have chain/ mudguard/ whatever? clearance I can't see any problems, best to check with the original still in place. It may steer a little slower , but considering the fly like reaction of the std bike that may well be a bonus :thumb:

Thanks Nigel
Can’t test as it’s stripped down to just the frame, but like you said, can’t see why not.
Won’t know for sure for a while, as this restore is my first, me think it’s going to be a loooooong road

If the rear sprocket is still mounted to the wheel , a flat edge laid across running past the rim/tyre may give a clue to chain clearance, that will be the main/closest one :thumb:
