Selling my much-loved 2005 DL650, I’m looking to either sell or part exchange for a DL1000. It’s a brilliant bike, excellent condition, perfect working order with no issues and many, many added extras that I will list below. I’m covering less miles and I’m happy to exchange a few MPG for a bit more power, but if I can’t achieve close to my asking price then I will happily keep.
Given the age the service history by dealers stopped a few years ago. The previous owner (who bought the bike new) took it to the local Suzuki dealer every year without fail. I have carried out the servicing myself to the book, a copy of my log is below. I did take the bike to a Suzuki specialist to get the valve shims, fork oil and seals done correctly during lockdown in 2020 (at 26,233 miles). I have changed the oil every 3,500 miles and the filter every other time.
This winter just passed I put new tyres on (Michelin Anakee Adventure front and rear), I have since covered about 1,000 miles. I changed the coolant hoses and coolant, brake fluid, brake pads, brake lines (HEL), new DID chain… the list is quite long. I also added new Givi pannier rails and a set of Givi panniers (included in the sale), a tool roll and Oxford heated grips. I also changed the exhaust to a Delkevic system, however I do have the original ORM exhaust in excellent condition should a swap back be preferred.
I wasn’t planning on selling this summer, as you can see by the work above. However, I am fortunate that I have the funds to change so should the right offer be made, I will change. If not, then I shall enjoy as it’s a great bike. The bike comes with:

anyone know where I can download a template for a service record?
I have scraps of paper of when I done this and that to the bike, not very organised!!

Got an old-fashioned Windows pc? There's probably an unused spreadsheet programme on there, you can format cell shapes and sizes, call the rows and columns whatever you want, if not download the Libre Office version. Very close to old MS Office suite.

After a lot more research, I may have been a little unrealistic with my price. I still think the Bike is worth it but after finding some later models with similar mileage, I can see I need to go lower if I actually want to sale (or part exchange).
I have no idea if bikes on the net are actually in good condition, and trade only seem to be offering 3 months warranties, but the price ultimately comes down to how willing I am to let go such a sorted nice bike for the unknown.
I have found a few DL1000’s that look tempting, so I will drop my bike to £3k and see how that looks.
It’s a tricky one, but if you want or know someone who wants a fully sorted mint DL650 then pop me a message. Thank you.

I think your pricing at £3,500 is absolutely right.
I bought my DL1000 K6 in November of last year for £2,700 with 32,000 miles on the clock and it was not in good condition, your bike looks a steal in comparison.

It’s always tricky pricing correctly. My bike might be immaculate with everything done, but some might just prefer newer. I found a few that were newer, more miles and no extras, but around the £3.5k mark… depends on the buyers priorities.
To be honest I won’t be that disappointed if I can’t sell for a good price. I might fancy the 1000 but not if I have to give my bike away. I still love the ride, so I shall leave it to fate now.

A truly stunning 'bike and a genuine credit to you. It must be one if not the best original VStroms in the country.

I have also found some nice DL1050's as I may up my budget to make the change worth while. I wouldn't change for the latest DL650, I prefer the looks of the old bikes plus no real advantage (for me anyway). I like the DL1000 engine as I used to own similar (SV1000), but the older generation that look like mine. I could make that change without spending much, but I'm leaning towards a bigger change if I do sale, rather than a tweak of HP and weight. Ultimately it depends on the sale of my bike, will post on Autotrader this week to up the chances.

Well it's on Autotrader, will see how many tyre kickers I get now :roll:
I am only going to try for two weeks, after that if no joy then I shall keep and enjoy! I may even get a second bike, depends on the offers I guess :whistle:

Just to clarify to save any confusion, I have now got the bike up on Autotrader for £3,400. I am open to negotiation and can remove some items if not wanted to lower the price… but if I can’t get near my asking then I will happily keep. Thank you :)

Price reduced to £3,200.
If no takers then I shall enjoy and keep. I'm going to get a second bike now anyway, probably a DL1000 for motorway munching and (unless sold) use the 650 for local fun roads. :)

I’m new to this forum, and just wanted to say, your bike looks cracking, and if you’re selling still, I may be interested!
I have a couple of things to sort first, so don’t hold any plans just for me, but whilst yours is older than I was considering, the quality of finish looks fantastic and I can see it’s been looked after.
Also, Cumbria by train and a ride home may take some working out…. But I just wanted to check with you first! 👍🙏🙏

I’m afraid the bike is no longer for sale. I have decided to keep, number of reasons but I won’t bore you with them. The older bikes are just as cracking as the newer models, so I wish you the best of luck with your search :)
