After 13 years and 37k miles, the old black "beauty" has gone to a new home. I've never had any vehicle as long as I've had her although to be fair, she did spend 3 years unattended in a shed while I extended/renovated our current house. Amazing bike, what some would dismiss as boringly reliable, never missed a beat, never left me stranded, often covered 500 miles in one stint, would easily go a tankful (140 miles the way I rode it) non-stop on the standard seat. Still, time to move on and I've satisfied my increasing interest in BMW boxers, not by going the GS route, but with a beautiful R1200R roadster, also black - also 13 years old!
Happy riding to all of you.

Enjoy the BMW! Oh, and :welcome2: to :traitor:.

Good luck with the R1200R. It is, of course, possible to leave Traitors Corner with an appropriate purchase in the future!

Enjoy and keep an eye on the wiring. Think Suzuki wiring is poor? :dl_hyperhysteria:

Nope, never had any reason to think there's anything poor about the Strom, certainly never had any wiring issues. The Beemer's unknown territory I admit, but this one has been cosseted by a single owner from new so I'm fairly hopeful that its not a 2-wheeled disaster area.....

I had an R1100S and loved it, was a brilliant tourer... Until the spline shaft went! It's common on Boxers, no early signs they just fail and it's fairly common.
Hope you never have the issue, cost me £1500 with my local garage (not dealer) and sold it a year later. Strom is not as well finished but costs nothing when it goes wrong. I will never sell my Strom, but may have a boxer again when I have more money 😋

Having had a few BMW's in my time its important to do the spline lube, its quite a big job but important, the older BM's are built well, from 2000+ the finish is not as good and they need looking after, regular oil changes on the gear box and bevel also as if not looked after 40k the bevel will need a rebuild.
good tourers, punchy but do require a bit of upkeep, enjoy

I second D16PJM comments, I have had 5 BMW's and the later ones are poor quality with gremlins after two bills of £1800 on R series bikes I did not buy any more, but if I ever did buy another one it would be a K series the K1200RS was the best BMW I ever had without any problems,
But I wish you good luck with yours and hope you have a better time than me with BMW.
