Strommers - help please! Just bought an ex-demo 1000 Strom and chuffed to bits with it. Been to the bike show at the NEC and bought me the latest Tom Tom, v happy with that too, but it's come with a USB lead or hard wire option. I'd prefer to hard wire it and wondered if anyone could offer advice on this please. Seems a good place is to splice into the live feed that supplies the auxiliary plug and then run a 3 amp fused line to the TT from there. Any comments / advice / alternates could anyone suggest please? Cheers! Dave.

One of my fuseboxes will make it a simple fit, PM me if you want one. You could also just take a feed from the switched live that goes to the rear brake pedal that's easily accessible either just under the coolant bottle or in the left panel on the back if I recall.

I used one of Bigpie's boxes, worked a treat and easy to fit.

Use this and have a couple of spare connectors for other add-ons. :thumb:

The base of the last TomTom is protected internally by a fuse. I just plugged the 2 wires of the TomTom cable into the front nightlight socket.

Another for the BigPie magic box!

Powering a Sat Nav requires very little and yes, you could use the aux live, it's safe enough. :thumb:

Thanks to all for comments and BigPie - your trick box looks good!
On your advice though I traced the rear brake cable to the 4 way multi plug where I could take a live feed as you suggest - just concerned I may bugger up any ABS signalling that may be enacted by this. Or am I over thinking this? Only asking as I expected to see a two wire plug - supply and return - not a four way one. So just being cautious.
And if I went for one of your boxes - where's the main switched power supply for that? If it comes off the battery then although fused it will be permanently live - not so good. Sorry if I'm appearing thick on this, but any advice appreciated.
Cheers

"where's the main switched power supply for that?"

You're not thick. No one is born with knowledge. You could maybe search for "relays" to see how they work. Bigpies box of connecton tricks uses a relay and is an excellent means of powering a few add ons. I know I have two and have used them on lots of bikes.

Sorry for the delay. Regarding relays see this:-
