Title: Suzuki V-Strom 1000 XT grips
Post by: b.voynov on September 29, 2018, 11:47:41
Hello blokes,
I have V-Strom 1000 XT 2017year.
Does anybody know what the length of the original grips is? I can not measure it right now. I would like to install an Oxford heated grips and I am wondering which one model to choose. If one of them is the same length will be very good.
Thank you in advance.

You might struggle to get Oxford hot grips to fit without changing the bars because the XT came with tapered bars and I think most of the Oxford hotgrips are made for 22mm thick bars not 28mm.

You would be much safer measuring up your own bars and double checking both the diameter as well as the length.

Thank you very much for that advice!
If there is someone who knows what kind of heated grips can fit to V-Strom 1000 XT I will be thankful if you share your experience.

I have fitted Oxford touring grips to my standard V-strom which also has 28mm bars  fitted which go down to 22mm at the grip section.

It was the same for a pair of Renthal fat bars that I had on my previous Versys 1000 and I would think that Suzuki would do the same on the XT bars to keep cost down.

You are right. I also fitted Oxford Touring hot grips on my XT version. The handle bar ends are the same diameter. The length is also same 120mm. I will add pictures of the new grips. They work pretty well up until now. I drilled bigger hole on the controller bracket to be able to mount it.

Wow. So that's why they call them tappered. Because they tapper from 28mm at the clamps to 22mm at the grips. And 22mm is the universal diameter for bar ends.

Sorry couldn't resist. I'll get my coat

On the 650 the touring grips are exactly the right length but both the sports and adventure grips will need adjusting. The 1000 May be the same.

I have the sport grips on my 14 Veek, fitted fine no trimming needed,  I like the extra grip of the sports compared too the touring or adventure models and my dealer had them for 50 quid!

I can tell you all that the R&G heated grips (literally half the price of Oxford) fit the 2018 DL1000 XT handle bars
They are 22mm
