A couple of weeks ago I was riding the alps and I kept thinking my wee did a little backfire every now & then... it was to tell though because the 2 bikes in front were backfiring.
On Saturday, on the way back from the coast (with mrs on the back), I was coasting down a hill and we think my wee shot out one solitary backfire.
The wee is such a quiet & polite beast in comparison to my other bikes that we were both surprised it did it.
Do you wee's normally do this (standard tuning & standard pipe BTW)?
-
my Wee does not.
Is not a backfire caused by one-burnt fuel in the exhaust, or air leak into exhaust
-
yup, unburnt fuel igniting in the pipe. Kind of normal on a bike with carbs if the anti-pop measures have been defeated and the tuning has been adjusted, or aftermarket pipe fitted etc.
I would have expected a FI'd bike would not inject fuel when coasting... but it may not be set-up like that so just injects the normal amount of fuel required to idle when the twist grip is released, in which case the potential exists for decel-pop.

It's been reported that a lean fuel mixture can sometimes cause the cylinder not to fire. The charge then ignites in the exhaust. Do you have an aftermarket exhaust or has the fi map been altered?

No, Wee's do not normally do that. Something would have to be amiss to misfire and afterfire. :dl_hyperhysteria:

Nope, all standard.
No way to say if there has been a re-map but I wouldn't think anyone would have had a re-map done without making alterations first, and she'll all standard otherwise.
I'll have to keep an eye on her I guess. She doesn't do it often, and I'm not fully convinced she is doing it at all. In Italy the other bikes were firing at me - so hard to tell which bike was doing it, at the weekend my other half thought she heard it but I didn't so who knows...

If it gets worse it might be good to read up on vacuum leaks and the common fuel flow issue.
