Title: Bit of a strange question..
Post by: FluffiestPond on June 19, 2016, 21:07:51
So I went out exploring yesterday and I noticed a small problem, I parked up in this lovely field and went for a nice walk, when I got back to my bike I noticed that my bike had taken a much larger lean then what I left it in.. The side stand had sunk straight into the ground  :shy:

How do you lads deal with it?

You can get side stand plates / heels from eBay etc

I saw them, Suzuki sell them too but it says they can't be used with center stands, which my bike has so I'm not sure if an aftermarket one would work?

+1 - Side Stand Foot. Just be careful about the size if you have a centre stand too. They can clash.

You can get plastic plates to use as a temporary support (replace every time), or something that bolts to the current foot.

OR.
If you have a top box, make up a bit of 1/2 inch thick ply, small enough to fit in bottom of box, but big enough to support bike. Then just put it under side stand on soft ground.

I used a plastic puck when camping stop the bike from sinking ..

Weird link...

If you do buy a puck, they're easier to pick up if you tie a length of string to it. Which I never knew, cue dodgy balancing/crouching act. Then I bought a Portuguese bigfoot and re-profiled it to work with the centre stand.

I have an AMC bigfoot with an SW Motech centre stand, no probs.  :thumb:

I don't know about other combinations though.

Don't use a centre stand on dodgy ground or in high winds. Use the side stand with the transmission in first gear. It's a more stable combination. I had an electrical box cover on the end of a yellow disc lock cable. The combo locked the bike, kept the stand from sinking and was obvious enough to keep me from riding off with the disc locked.

Bit of marine ply cut to be about 3" square, carry it in my tail pack or coat pocket!
