so finally got to replace my slightly bent bars after a little tw@ tried to nick my bike, got some renthal ones off fleabay. so heres the issue... how do you get the threaded bit out of the bars so I can fit the bar end weights? :shrug: :fix:

Just keep unscrewing the end weights till they come out, the nut inside will fall out when you tip the bars up or, if still fitted to the bike, blow compressed air down the hole and the threaded bit will come out the other end or, as I did when I unscrewed the bar end the wrong way, shoved the pressure washer nozzle there and give it a blast.
Just have a rag close to the other end to assist in catching the offending article as it shoot out or it will disappear in the manner of all small items that ping off as part of your cunning plan.

Ooops...you mean the threaded ends in the Renthal bars.....Doh!
don't know...the Renthals on the old Bandit I bought didn't have any....

no m8, they originals. tried to knock them out with the weights just screwed in a little but they won't budge, ill give them a spray later to see if that helps them out

If they are like mine the long screw has a nut on the end of it that pulls into a rubber bung that expands to grip the inside of the bars.
What I did was to undo the screw about 6 turns and then push the screw inwards to drive the nut out of the bung. The manual says not to completely remove the screw as it leaves everything else inside the bars.
Even after that it was a case of working the assembly outwards by pulling on the bar end and wiggling. Nothing scientific - just brute force.
Mine's a 58 Wee. Might not be the same as yours but that is my 10p worth!

Not the easiest job. But if they are the same as mine I put grease on the bungs and screw to help any future removal. The whole assembly now just slides out when the screw is loosened

As has been said
Unscrew half a dozen turns and push the screw in to take the pressure off the rubber bung.
Apply some pressure to pull the end weight out. If the bung is stuck I squirt WD40 up the bar.
Wait 5 minutes and pull on the bar end weight and this should slide everything out of the bar.
Before refitting I remove all trace of lubricant and refit them dry.
I would not apply grease as the rubber bungs are a friction fit and the bar end weights may fall out if lubricated.

I thought of that. So, screwed it all up tight and then gave the weights a great big pull. Didn't move at all. But I guess clean bungs will work as well too
I did have to take one off again to fit heated grips and it was easy-peasy as it just slid out when loosened

The old bars are steel but I expect the Renthal bars are aluminium. I expect the Renthal bars to have a thicker wall which means the bore size will be smaller.

I replaced the original rubbers and steel sleeve that fits inside the bars with a piece or rubber fuel hose that just fitted inside the Renthals , assembled all on to the long screw and tightened until the back nut was just gripping on the tube, lubed up the assembly with a smear of WD40 inserted into the Renthals and securely tightened. The new rubber tube must protrude out of the end of the bars a fraction when you tighten the assy in to place to isolate the end weight and collar from the bars or you will prevent the assembly from working as a vibration damper.
