Title: Tyre Question
Post by: robsonthejob on January 10, 2013, 14:17:12
Hi - May seem a daft question, Currently have a Bridgestone front tyre near the end of its life and a nearly new rear bridgestone tyre.

This was how it was when I bought it. I like the Michelin Anakee's I had on the old crumpled Vee.

Would you change to the michelin and change the rear when its had it or stick another bridgestone on for now and change em both later on ?

Not sure how well Michelin front , Bridgestone rear would work. - Thanks.

I've never seen a problem reported from mixing tyres. Of course each will have some different characteristics that may show up when pushing the performance envelope but matched Tyres will even do that due to different sizes and forces between front and rear.

I've not had a problem mixing and matching either, although I did change both original Bridgestones at the same time.

Check the construction there are a few odd radial/bias ply combinations still out there that while they probably work aren't legal. Chances are with a road tyre this isn't a problem, it only seems to crop up with 21/18-inch combos for bikes with competition potential.

If both tyres look the same they seem to work the same so no hassle. I did once run a knobblie front and semi-slick road tyre sort for a week or two (think it was a Conti and an Avon) and was glad to get onto knobblies both ends as soon as I got chance. It was rideable but felt wrong.

If it's a Battlewing it won't be a problem.  If it's a Trailwing,...stick on a pair of Anakee 2s and Ebay the TW. Not because it's a combo thing, just that I hate TWs.

I've got the reverse problem. Rear Trailwing nearly dead, but front one looks OK. I'm going to change both to Anakees on Saturday.

Anakee on the front is a good match then.

greywolf was good enough to share this link in reply to my similar question in the "tyres" section
