Title: Venom Exhausts
Post by: scratch on October 10, 2011, 16:49:22
I am getting a pair of Venom (Motad) GP carbon tipped cans for my V Strom 1000 tommoz and can't wait to fit them. Has anyone got them already and if so what are they like?    (please say good !!!)
The pipes were being advertised on EBAY by Motad with a start price of £149.99 however I rang the number given and got mine for that price plus postage of £12 so all in all only ended up paying £162 for what appears to be a nice modern pair of cans...bargain. I'm not sure what the final auction price was but I reckon anyone who wants a set would get the same deal if they rang Motad/Venom direct (01922 714700).
Off to a bike/charity doo at the highest pub in England (The Tan Hill Inn in Pennines) at the weekend so can't wait to try them out.

Ride on and pray for good weather for me please!! :auto-dirtbike:

that's one wicked username........pardon me for venturing to suggest you follow the mighty Rush?

Anyway....if you can explain as simply as possible how to show pictures I will post some when they are fitted. I really struggled when I tried to follow the instructions on the site as I am a bit useless with IT.
By the way I hail from the Felling!!! :auto-dirtbike:  :limp:

I've read an article on how Motad develop their aftermarket systems and I was quite impressed with how technical they are about it. I personally wouldn't think twice before buying some of their stuff, but the opportunity hasn't presented itself yet. I think the exhaust on my CX500 is a Motad one, but I'm not 100% sure, I bought it like that. Let us know what you think of the quality after you've done some good miles with them, please?

Indeed, good spot  :thumb:  There's a couple of items in the 'Pictures' section of how to upload pictures. I'm just over the water from you on the wrong side of the wall at Stakeford.

Felling as in Gateshead?

that's where I am nearly from - Lived in Heworth for 21 years and went to the super salubrious Heworth comp!

Live in Wardley now, but looking to get a shift to North of the river next year(fingers crossed!!)

Do you ever feel the need to play the Hovis tune and re visit the old place?

I did wonder about the NUFC badge given your location!

Ben

Yes the Motad stuff is well made . A good old English company from the land of metal bashing ..(the black country)..I've had a few exhausts off them over the years and been very happy with their stuff..
They make the OE exhausts for Triumph.

Fitted the cans today and they sound brilliant with or without the baffles. Slight mishap in that a set of clamps were missing but they are sending them out first class so should have them tommoz.
Once I learn how to do so I will load some photos.
They are very up to date looking and give the bike a more modern look,
Thanks for the posts about Motad chaps

Bencav.........Yep the Felling as in Gods country of Gatesheeeed. Moved down to Northants in 1998. I went to St Aidens in Wrekenton but had loads of mates at Heworth in fact meeting a few of them at Tan Hill this weekend. :auto-dirtbike:

Videos never do exhausts justice, but we get the idea and they sound nice :thumb: They stick out quite far behind, not sure if I like that or not, it definitely is different than the usual.

They do stick out a bit that's true. They also do a normal set without the carbon tips which are probably a but shorter. I like them though cos they are a bit different from the norm (like me!!!)
I think  they look better on the bike than in the video.

Scratch...... HELP.  I received my Venoms today, my they look smart. Question did you fit the conical baffle in the silencer before fitting. How loud are they ?  At the moment I think I will fit them with the baffle in and see. I can always change later. It seems odd that you have to fit them yourself to comply with the regs.
Should have them on at the weekend . But I have to stop the fuel leak under the tank. Suspect fuel hose!

Venom ..What a bargain just right for a birthday on Monday.  :lala:  :lala:  :lala:

Hello Motofrog.....sorry for late reply just noticed your post. Yes I did fit the conical baffle which I also found weird as I think they could have manufactured them in. They are more than loud enough with them in but the silencer baffles out. I really hope you enjoy them, I love mine. Be careful when you take the little baffles out.....the nut drops of inside the body of the silencer and is a twat to get out.

Venom tip.  If you take the baffle pipe out put a tiny bit of blue tack or thick grease on the tip of you hex key, to hold the small screw. Otherwise it will fall into the carbon cap, and you WILL  spend some time getting it out  or removing the can to shake it out..  They sound superb without the baffle. . Not too loud just mellow. Even the neighbours will like them .         THEY WILL.

Bidding on a set on eBay from them.
Might give them a call to see if I can hurry them along a bit rather than wait another two day and get out bid again

I got a pair of these about 2 months ago. really happy with them they sound great and look good to. :auto-dirtbike:
They do seem to stick out abit, but I have the top box adaptor, and that helps make them look all in line.
Will post some pics when I can!!!

Hi, just fitted my K2 version with a K&N air filter and the Motad - Venom stainless steel, eBay £195.00.

Very easy to remove the old o/e set and fit the new system, good quality stainless steel with all fixings and gaskets, easy to remove baffles.

Went for test ride and the bike was transformed  :fix: . Felt lighter, flick-able and a very nice exhaust note to match with no baffles.

No loss of power top end and no back fire on de-acceleration. Felt the bike could breathe  :auto-dirtbike:

Overall: the cost was cheap (than a pair of o/e fitment) and the   it gives - who cares how fast, just enjoying the ride :rain: and  :)))
